7th storey projects is pleased to welcome back the myor massiv head honcho for his 3rd release on our label. earlier this year, coco bryce travelled to tokyo and osaka for a small series of gigs. thoroughly impressed by his experiences there, upon returning home, he immediately took to crafting a slew of jungle and hip hop tracks, heavily influenced by everything he d seen, heard, felt and tasted in the land of the rising sun. the ep kicks off with its title track, ayakashi. dark, fierce and mysterious like the mythical creatures it was named after, it builds up slowly, utilizing a combination of chopped up japanese percussion, haunting flutes and hot pants breaks, before switching to full on amen assault mode halfway through the tune. shinjuku is one of tokyos most well known wards, and also the place where coco found the records from which the samples were sourced to construct this number: a turntablism beat/scratch album, and a compilation of traditional work songs, this particular one originating from the gold mines of the island of hokkaido. on the b1 track, kaguya, he takes a more gentle approach: sweet, yet melancholic, like the miyazaki movie of the same name. the ep is rounded off with hotaru, which borrows from an entirely different source of inspiration, namely dj krush s abstract take on boom bap hip hop. shards of mid-90s mo wax are blended with anime samples, making for a solid two and a half minutes of golden era-esque head nodding.

cheap present was formed in 2013 as a collaborative project between melbourne artists env and luis cl serving as an outlet for the pair to experiment outside of their main musical acts and subsequent genre limitations.
cheap present’s music is mostly recorded live in the studio with minimal overdubs and draws sounds and influences from various sources. using old keyboards and samples mixed with digital high definition sounds, the duo create a mixture of raw elements from the techno and dance tradition with a nod to classical melodies and industrial music. each song features heavy drums to highlight the melodic playfulness of their bass, synth arrangements and humorous but expressive vocals and song titles. the anterior mini lp follows on from the duo’s wet garden cassette earlier in the year and presents a collection of material looking back from the group’s creation in 2013 to more recent output. the pair’s evolution is clearly on display on the this 12 inch, from initial jam based songs such as waterproofyouth and bergwasser, which have a spontaneous metallic edge, to new songs such as rooftops, which display a more meticulous and mature approach to production.

this year sees abba’s the album turn 40, and usm are pleased to announce that we’ll be releasing a selection of products to celebrate the anniversary. abba: the album is the fifth studio album by the swedish pop group abba. it was originally released in scandinavia on 12 december 1977 through polar music and was released in conjunction with abba: the movie, with several of the songs featured in the film. the album contained two uk number-one singles, -take a chance on me- and -the name of the game-, as well as european hits -eagle- and -thank you for the music-. the album includes three songs from abba’s 1977 tour mini-musical the girl with the golden hair. these songs are -thank you for the music-, -i wonder (departure)- and -i’m a marionette-. altogether the album contained just nine songs—the least of any abba album, but were longer in length than previous albums (opening track -eagle- runs to nearly six minutes). abba: the album reached no. 1 in many territories. in the uk it debuted at the top and remained there for seven weeks, ending up as the third biggest selling album of the year (behind the movie soundtrack lps of saturday night fever and grease). in the us it became their highest charting album, where during 1978 abba undertook a big promotional campaign.

nick mackrory & harry collier’s musical partnership dates all the way back to the 90’s, when they were both deeply invested in the musical boom in the uk that followed acid house, the rave scene, and the ibiza experience. nick went from drumsticks to turntables to studio wizardry, while harry honed in on his golden voice - which led him to a stint as a singer for faithless. they found their way back to each other in 2014 and have since developed a sound together that is fresh but not too polished. with touches of 60’s chanson coupled with sundazed electronics, their songs linger on like the feeling of a long day spent outdoors in summer.

“the mark of the devil” is the third and last chapter of alex puddu’s trilogy with italian legendary vocalist edda dell’orso, here featured in three songs. written, arranged, produced and performed by alex puddu, together with many great musicians, the album is dope-groove, is prog-rock, is psych-blues, a walk through the gates of hell within lust and temptation. this album is the most obscure and experimental alex puddu has ever made to date!

heutzutage suchen wir nach verlässlichen figuren in der welt. zum glück gibt es peter perrett. auf das britische musik-urgestein war schließlich schon in den späten 70ern verlass. damals bescherte er mit der band the only ones der londoner new wave bewegung den hit -another girl, another planet-, drei alben und ganz viel inspiration. letzteres wussten vor allem die kritiker. und trotzdem gelang der band niemals der totale durchbruch. danach blieb es über ein jahrzehnt ruhig um perrett. seinem drogenmissbrauch folgte das abtauchen und dann die mystifizierung seiner person. nach zwei solo-gehversuchen 1996 und 2001 brach er 2015 zu einer kleinen tour auf. dort performte er seit langem auch wieder neue songs. nun meldet sich der heute 65-jährige mit dem neuen solo-album -how the west was won- zurück. wer the only ones kennt, wird wissen, dass perrett schon früh anleihen aus dem us-rock n roll mit new wave und britischer schnauze einzigartig vermischen konnte. durchflossen von neuem elan hat er gleich einen hit genau dieser couleur mitgebracht: den albumtiteltrack. von the replacements bis hin zu violent femmes, peter perretts musik hat den sound vieler darauffolgenden bands mitgeprägt. 2017 feiert er das comeback, das keiner kommen sah.

aufgenommen wurden die 13 songs von »a fever you can’t sweat out« in den somd! studios in college park, maryland. für die produktion zeichnete matt squire (good charlotte, the used, taking back sunday) verantwortlich.
das album wurde ein kommerzieller erfolg. die zweite singleauskopplung »i write sins not tragedies« schaffte es in den usa bis in die top 10 der charts.

für das 13. album haben sich the charlatans tatkräftige unterstützung von freunden und namhaften musikern geholt. so beteiligten sich neben dem ehemaligen the verve-drummer pete salisbury, anton newcombe von the brian jonestown massacre und stephen morris (new order), der bereits beim vorgängeralbum -modern nature- (2015) dabei war, auch johnny marr von the smiths an den aufnahmen der songs. schriftsteller ian rankin und lampchops kurt wagner lieferten spoken word-passagen für die songs future tense und the forgotten one, und die schriftstellerin/schauspielerin sharon horgan den hintergrundgesang zum track different days. das albumfinale spinning out bestreitet sänger tim burgess zusammen mit paul weller.

desiderii marginis long out of print debut album from 1997 “songs over ruins” is given a proper re-issue, carefully remastered by johan levin himself and with new artworks as cd and limited edition lp. a landmark in the genre, with it’s desolate, minimalistic and grief stricken odes to religious and spiritual burdens. a foray through abandoned ruins and a reflection on the passing of time and the impermanence of all things physical. outstanding in quality and production skills, this mesmerizing and foreboding journey is at times tranquil and melodic and also dives into more martial like percussive elements and industrial atmospheres. classics like these definitely need to be discovered still and also rediscovered, and it’s with great pleasure that we make it available once again.

für das 13. album haben sich the charlatans tatkräftige unterstützung von freunden und namhaften musikern geholt. so beteiligten sich neben dem ehemaligen the verve-drummer pete salisbury, anton newcombe von the brian jonestown massacre und stephen morris (new order), der bereits beim vorgängeralbum “modern nature” (2015) dabei war, auch johnny marr von the smiths an den aufnahmen der songs. schriftsteller ian rankin und lampchops kurt wagner lieferten spoken word-passagen für die songs “future tense” und “the forgotten one”, und die schriftstellerin/schauspielerin sharon horgan den hintergrundgesang zum track “different days”. das albumfinale “spinning out” bestreitet sänger tim burgess zusammen mit paul weller.
